Cakes

Sorry I haven't been very good at posting lately, I have a lot of pics to put on and stuff to update. But here a look at what I did today :) I have another wedding next week and then 2 in october :)!! This was my first wedding cake done in buttercream instead of fondant. I have to say I much prefer fondant and might start only offering it. I did get a 5 gallon bucket of glucose yesterday for use in making my fondant. It should last forever... way cheaper than buying it in the little wilton packages. Anyways here's Allison's wedding cake and a house warming cake I did.
For the wedding cake I got there and all she had was a bucket full of roses to decorate the cake with, so lucky me I got to cut the flowers and arrange them on the cake too. It was pretty fun. Don't think I want to worry about doing that all the time, but it was allright for today.

Some fun pictures

I don't know if you can see it very well here, but when wating dinner KC always makes a funny scrutched up face to us. Its so silly. His little teeth stick out and he wrinkles up his nose.
Parker and Daddy making german pancakes
Wheres KC??? This is what happened after nap time the other day. They sure had fun, unfortunalty the cribbed is filled up with all the clothes from KC dresser, plus the pile of clothes that don't fit anymore from the closet, as well and a few baskets full of dirty clothes. There is also a bag of dipaers emptied into it and anything else Parker could find at the time. KC thought is was great, I was not so excited.
Can you see the top of his little head?
Parker and I went for a bike ride one night and stopped to play at the park. All my pics turned out blurry, not sure why.

Kids playing with the connect 4 game. KC got pretty good at putting the pieces in.
On Labor day weekend we were suposed to go to Idaho, but since I was sick all weekend we had to stay home :(. So for Labor Day we took the kids to a prk up the Provo Canyon and just let them run around and enjoy the nice weather, KC loved running around in the grass and throwing the ball around.

Nana! Nana! Nana!!

KC LOVES bananas. Actually that's an understatement, there are no words to describe just how he feels about them. All day long he walks around saying "Nana, nana, nana?!!" And then he leads you to the kitchen and waits for you to give him something. I had thought that he just thought it was a good word for food, but not necessarily a banana specifically. On no, I was very wrong. How do I know??? Well, we ran out of bananas for a few days, this happens quite often since we go through a bunch almost everyday. So for those few days you would have thought someone threw out his favorite binkie or something. He would ask for a nana and then look around the kitchen with a most pathetic desperate expression. And when you told him there where no bananas he would cry a little, and refuse anything else you tried to give him. So we stopped at the store late the other night and got some bananas, I was hardly back int he car and he had is binkie out and was screaming for a "NANA!!!!!" It is so funny. Even after hes just had one, hes back climbing up your leg begging for another. Is it possible to eat to many? Is he going to get potassium poisoning or something. He is so silly.

September Cake

Here's the latest office cake. It was chocolate with Bavarian cream. I've tried making my filling, but when I've tried Bavarian cream it hasn't been very good. It's not real tasty anyways, at least I don't think so, but it just seemed flavorless when I made it. So I've decided to just buy it already made. Much easier and tastier, and I think more cost effective too. Aaron said the cake was really yummy so I think it was a good choice. Last months cake turned out really dry and the filling was really thin and runny. Not a very good combination, I felt really bad that it didn't turn out. I tried a new recipe and shouldn't have tried it before I needed it for someone. I'll have to do some tweaking with it if I ever plan to use it again. Anyways here's a pic of the cake.

I had an appointment today to schedule a wedding cake and have another tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about it. That makes 2 wedding cakes this month and 2 next month as well as a few misc cakes here and there. Its nice to have the big cakes because it gives me some extra money to buy some supplies and fun fondant tools. I also just ordered a 5lb bucket of glucose so I can make all my own fondant. That store bought stuff is just nasty and Carrie gave us a really great recipe that is really easy to make and very tasty. If anyone would like it let me know, maybe I'll try to post it on here when I get around to it. But the catch is you have to use glucose, a thicker type of corn syrup, it doesn't work if you don't. But if you buy the Wilton containers of it it is really expensive if you buy it a lot. So I ordered a ton, but for only $40. I can't wait to get it because I have a few cakes, one I saw in a book, and one inspired by a pillow I saw, that I can't wait to make. I think they will be great additions for my website, not to mention that if I can pull them off I'll be brave enough to raise my prices on wedding cakes. So that's all that's up here with cakes anyways. Most the cakes I have over the next 2 months are pretty basic, but I'll post their pictures when they are done. :)

The latest cakes

Here are some pics of the cakes. I made Dad a guitar cake for his birthday. We had fun going to dinner with mom and dad minus the kiddos :) Thanks Christy for babysitting. Then we came back to our house for cake. The other is a cake for a sweet sixteen party. Sorry, I'm not a good photographer, I wish I had a better pic. This cake was fun because I got to try out some of the things I learned at my class, including cake plaster. A way to keep the filling from creating a bulge in the fondant when you stack all the cakes. It was stressful, but fun. :) It looks a little funny right now with the things sticking out of the top, but they are adding flowers to it so then it will be cool. Can anyone photoshop my cake pics to make the backgrounds look nicer so I can put it on my website?
